Hypnos

This is the Altar to Hypnos, greek god of Sleep

Hypnos is the son of Nyx and Erebos, the personifications/gods of night and darkness respectively, the twin to Thanatos (god of death), married to Pasithea, who is one of the youngest charities and the personification of relaxation and has three kids, Morpheus, Phobetor and Phantasos (who are sometimes called the Orneroi).

Mythology

In one myth Hera asks Hypnos to put Zeus to sleep so she could raise up a storm to kill Heracles (who was one of Zeus' many illegitamate children) while he was sailing across the Agean. Zeus, however, finds out and nearly thows Hypnos into the sea and is only stopped when Hypnos' mother Nyx steps in. (as told in the illiad).

In another Hera asks for Hypnos' help again, who is hesitant, considering how the last time he did that ended, but Hera eventually convinces him by offering him Pasithea as a wife. (also in the illiad)

In a version of the Endymion myth Hypnos falls in love with Endymion, due to his beautiful eyes, so Hypnos doesn't close them while Endymion sleeps so he can continue to look at them. (Deipnosophistae)

Hypnos is a really pleasant deity to work with and in my expeirience he is really patient and gentle. I started working with him because his mythology always interested me, my special interest is named after him, I've got sleep problems and I really can't complain. His presence feels pleasant, almost tingly and deeply comforting. I've found that strawberries work pretty well as offerings too, idk why but he seems to like them. Probably will try hot cocoa soon. I haven't asked him to really help in any actual workings but I will update the page when I do and let you lot know how it went. Generally Hypnos is one of those deities with few followers and comparatively little known mythology which can be a little tricky when it comes to figuring out how to approach deity work/worhsip. I've found just asking to work pretty well though.
