Now first of all, I will admit that everyone and their mother in the online hypnosis space have made that joke but I'm afriad it's just a conveniently simple idea and hey, what's a little humour? Either way this will be a very basic induction, getting you into trance and then subsequently taking you out of it again, no fractionation, no fantasy, no nothing. Don't read this script while driving or operating heavy machinery, or don't read anything else while doing that to be honest, don't be an idiot, bla bla, disclaimer nonsense, anyway, on with the show.
Well if you're reading this I'm going to assume that you're at least vaguely aware of the concept of hypnosis. Maybe you're intricately familiar with going in and out of trance, maybe you've seen some butchered parody of the real thing in a movie once, either way this should be something nice and simple to get you introduced or re-introduced to the concept.
I would like you to start by really tuning into my words. The words you're reading, the way they sound in your mind if you do indeed hear words while reading, the way the letters look, the way they combine to form meaningsā¦ Try to hyper focus as much as you can without straining yourself. This should not be an exercise in effort. Just let it happen if it happens. Follow along. Read along. That's it.
Now the thing about trance is that it's by no means mind control like some pieces of media will have you believe, and neither do you need a flashy spiral or a pocket watch, hells, you don't even need to see me, this is just text. No, what trance really is, as far as the current research goes anyway, is a social phenomenon.
You currently want to go into trance, you wouldn't be reading this if you wouldn't want that. And I am doing my best to convince you that going into trance is the thing to do, that I am trustworthy and capable enough to induce it. And if I succeed in that you will, unconsciously, lower your mental filter because that's what your brain thinks should happen. And so it makes it happen.
Trance really isn't some distinct state of consciousness, merely your brain doing what it thinks it should happen. Though there are often parallels between how people perceive what trance is like. Most people report that it is a deeply relaxed state, that it feels either like their body is very light and floaty or very heavy and sinking. Further one can observe a heightened state of suggestibility.
Now I can't magically make you do anything you don't want, it's a social phenomenon, remember, but I can tell you to relax and to drop and let go. And you very well might. And I can tell you that you're going to relax into this perceived state of consciousness that really just is a social phenomenon mimicking a state of consciousness that doesn't exist because it is a social phenomenon and so on as I count down from 10. Go ahead, if you're in a place where it's safe and comfortable for you to do so, feel free to mouth the words along as you read them.
10 And just start sinking. Already relaxed. Maybe the words are passing you by but you're still absorbing and reacting.
9 Letting go slowly but surely. Slowly unwinding, letting a wave of relaxation slowly travel through you.
8 From your feet through your calves, your thighs, your hips, your stomach, hands, arms, chest, shoulders, neck and finally reaching your head as I reach
7 And you just drop down nice and comfortable. Enjoy this state and know that you can sink deeper and deeper, keeping your eyes open, keeping on reading without effort.
6 There we go, it feels nice, doesn't it? To let your train of thought shut off for a little while, temporarily replaced by the words you're reading.
5 And of course count downs are a cliche on their own when it comes to hypnosis. But cliche as they might be they're often very effective and you're coming to notice that.
4 Getting closer and closer to the bottom of this state. Just letting yourself drift. It's nice. So give into it. It's perfectly safe, it's your mind, I can't do anything you don't want me to do.
3 In the last three now, sinking further and further, reading effortlessly, eyes ghosting back and forth across the screen.
2 Getting there, sinking, drifting, down. The only way to go is down right now, at least it feels that way and that feels so so good.
1 All the way down in that soft, drifting feeling now. Relaxing. Just enjoying the moment. Take a break from reading after this sentence and enjoy this. You've earned it.
And once you feel ready you can continue reading, a soft smile spreading across your face and I'll bring you back up.
There really is no rule nor are there nearly as many cliches when it comes to bringing someone out of trance compared to the induction. Most people use a count up, slowly allowing their subject to rise back up, feeling more and more refreshed and ready to take on the day or perhaps, if it's late, staying nice and relaxed and ready to sleep without issue. Either way that is customary and I will get to that, though if you find yourself rising as is, there is no need to stick to it.
But still. A count up from one to five, quicker than the induction, not quick enough to give you whiplash I hope.
1 Starting to rise up, but taking a moment to enjoy trance
2 Further and further up now, there we go, rising up
3 Taking as much or as little energy as you need with you from this trance
4 Go ahead and stretch a little, make sure nothing is stiff
5 All the way awake now.
I hope you enjoyed this little introduction to trance and I will see you in the next one. Or a blog post. Or whatever. Either way I hope you have a good day <3
